a word about organizing resources
I do my best to offer as many resources to my clients, readers and members as possible that could potentially benefit them. However, these are not direct endorsements and in many cases I have not personally used the product or vendor. Even if I am an affiliate, I may only know of the product/service through word of mouth or my own research, but not direct usage. Likewise, whether or not I've personally used a product or vendor, I cannot predict how your engagement with those things or companies will go. These resources are therefore meant to be a starting point for you to do your own research and make an informed decision.

Potential Reads for DIY Organizers
Every professional home organizer has a different technique to decluttering and organizing. Some steps will be the same (declutter - organize - maintain). But how they accomplish those steps can look very different. Below are some books I've read or websites for well-known organizers and my impression and opinion of their approaches and target readers/clients (any errors in my impressions are my own, of course).
KONMARI (Marie Kondo)
- KonMari - several book titles available or take her Tidy Course
- I'm a firm believer in asking yourself 1-3 key power-questions while reviewing your belongings and determining what to keep. For KonMari, there is one question: "Does this spark joy?" I find other questions more useful in different situations, but if this resonates with you, use it!
- The method involves organizing by category of belongings - not by room or space - until every category has been reviewed, decluttered and organized. I've found this approach to be very effective, but also realize it might not work for everyone.
- Speaks to those who like an ultra-Zen vibe, leaning towards the minimalist end of the spectrum and promotes a spiritual or energy connection with the things you own.
DANA K. WHITE
- Title: Decluttering at the Speed of Life
- For people struggling with severe clutter and re-clutter issues, the author helps the reader make the mindset shifts needed to part with stuff and break (or minimize) the patterns that lead to clutter
- I appreciate the author's approaches and guidance to help those who struggle with accumulation habits that interfere with life
THE HOME EDIT
- Website or check booksellers for multiple titles
- For those who are inspired by pictures of spaces organized for celebrities and shelves lined with shiny, matching acrylic bins filled with brighly colored containers of contents
- I specialize in smaller spaces and lean towards more eco-friendly organizing options, but from what I've read, THE is well-suited for people with large spaces and the budget for fancy organizing systems
